Chiefs keep fighting for a thrilling 30-29 win against the rival Raiders

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — – The Kansas City Chiefs headed off to the locker room with huge losses to The Las Vegas Raiders on Monday night, with everything from huge plays to officiating decisions going in the direction of their long-time AFC West rivals.

One specific call set off an ember under the hoods of these.

It was a questionable penalty against Chiefs defenseman Chris Jones for roughing Raiders quarterback Derek Carr, and nobody in the Kansas City locker room could be convinced. However, rather than pondering the incident, or lament the 10-point loss, Patrick Mahomes and the majority of the Chiefs utilized it as a way to come back from behind and secure the win of 30-29.

“There was anger just about how we had played up to that point,” Mahomes said. Mahomes who scored four touchdowns towards the tight end Travis Kelce. “We needed everybody to go out there and take the fight to them.”

The Raiders were still in the game in the end when Davante Adam who earlier caught a touchdown from 58 yards catch and added a 48-yarder with 4:29 remaining. The play came just after Kelce’s first touchdown catch, as Kansas City failed on a 2-point attempt that left the score at 30-23. However, instead of kick an extra point to tie the score, Raiders coach Josh McDaniels also decided to go for two.

Josh Jacobs, who had destroyed the Chiefs defense all nightlong, was crushed in the line of goal.

The Raiders were able to get the ball back once more with 2:29 remaining and a long, third-down throw to Adams along to the Kansas City sideline appeared to bring them into field-goal area. But the play was later reexamined and Adams did not manage to bring both feet in bounds. Carr failed to complete the pass on fourth-and-1, with 47 seconds to go before the Chiefs finished the clock.

“We didn’t fall apart on each other,” Chiefs safety Justin Reid said. “We battled through adversity.”

Carr was able to score 241 yards of passing. Jacobs ran for scores of 133 yards and a touchdown in the Raiders fell to the Chiefs (4-1) for the fourth time in a row. Daniel Carlson was 3 for 3 in field goals, which extended the streak of his to 37 games in consecutive games.

What he wouldn’t give to have a shot at. 39.

“We had a chance,” Daniels declared. “We just didn’t make one or two plays there at the end to finish it.”

This game full of turns and twists started with the Raiders not scoring on their first play for the very first time this season.

They made amends at the next meeting.

In their in their own area, McDaniels sent his offense back to the field. However, rather than running Jacobs across the middle or sneak by Carr the ball, he let the ball to Adams who sped through Rashad Fenton for the 58 yard touchdown catch.

Adams as well as The Raiders continued to target Fenton in the second period, as the pass was tipped off and led to the move of Las Vegas deep into Chiefs territory. Adams received a second penalty from Jaylen Watson inside the final zone, which set up Jacobs his small TD jump.

It was 17-0 at the time Kelce finally made it to the end zone of the Chiefs It appeared like the momentum was shifting when Jones took Carr off the back and then landed on him. The ball was being clearly released as well as it being clear that the Pro Bowl defensive tackle coming off from the ball, the official Carl Cheffers threw a penalty flag and reprimanded Jones for slapping the passer.

Chiefs head coach Andy Reid stormed off the sideline to debate. After the teams exchanged fields goals during the closing minutes, with the Raiders in the lead 20-10 Reid confronted Cheffers and struck him again before the teams made their way into their locker rooms.

“I got it off my chest,” Reid said. “I said what I needed to say.”

The controversial penalty occurred the same day that a second doubtful roughing call by the officiating Jerome Boger on Atlanta’s Grady Jarrett against Tampa Bay quarterback Tom Brady was the final straw in the Buccaneers victory against the Falcons.

Cheffers said to a reporter from the pool that Carr “gets complete protection from everything we offer the quarterback when in a position of passing. When he was subsequently tackled and I decided that the defender was able to land on the quarterback with his entire body weight.”

Mahomes stated: “It wasn’t the greatest decision of all time. It’s important to figure out a way to rebound, and that’s what we’ve done.”

Do they ever.

The Chiefs started the second period with a 75-yard run which Kelce completed by scoring his 2nd TD reception. Then, after forcing to punt quickly after which the Chiefs took 57 yards, and then watched Kelce score his third TD for a TD to provide Kansas City a 24-20 lead.

The fourth quarter was in its midway point in the fourth quarter, it turned out to be the Chiefs who were awarded the penalty gift.

They led by 24-23 when substitute kicker Matthew Wright, whose 59-yarder prior to halftime set the record of the franchise for the longest field shot and yanked a 37-yarder to the left. However, defensive end Malcolm Koonce was called for holding, which gave Kansas City an automatic first down and Mahomes discovered Kelce after four plays later to increase his lead up to 30-24.

The teams traded touchdowns –and missed conversionsat the end of the game as the Chiefs were victorious.

“We’re close but close doesn’t count in this game,” Carr stated. “It’s frustrating.”
