Sean Payton will join the Denver Broncos as head coach after the team reached an agreement with his former team The New Orleans Saints, according to reports from ESPN and NFL Network.
Payton was on agreement with the Saints and was a Saints player despite his departure in the last season. He was also working as a broadcaster for the Saints this season.
For a period of 15 years with the team He led the Saints to playoffs nine times and won one Super Bowl in 2010.
“This was the opportunity I was looking for,” Payton stated to NOLA.com. “It’s an incredible fanbase and an amazing tradition. The owner group is amazing and I am impressed by the way they played certain games this past season.”
He is a part of the Broncos team that is in dire need of an improvement.
Denver ended the season with a 5-12 record and extended its stay out of the playoffs for seven seasons in a row.
The most disappointing part was the quarterback’s performance. Russell Wilson who the Broncos exchanged for four premium drafts by the Seattle Seahawks ahead of this season.
The nine-time Pro Bowler suffered the worst season in terms of statistics of his career, coming in with a career low of 16 touchdown passes, and leading an offense that concluded the season with an average of 16.9 scores per game.
But, Payton is confident of making the most of Wilson.
“Russell is a hard worker and has played at a high level and won a lot of games in this league,” Payton stated to NOLA.com.
“The the pressure lies on our shoulders to get together a great run game and decrease the level of difficulty for his position. I’m thrilled for him.”
In addition in the same area, The Houston Texans have hired San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator and former Texans linebacker DeMeco Ryans, 38, as their new head coach The NFL team announced on Tuesday.
A former Texans linebacker is stepping into the position on the heels of a great period working when he was with his team the 49ers acting as their defensive coach.
Under his direction as the coordinator for the past 2 seasons San Francisco defense ranked first in total defense (300.6 yards per game) and allowed total points (277) and allowed points in a game (16.3) during the 2022 regular season.
In 2021 the 49ers defense was 3rd in league permitting 310.0 to total yards for each game.
Houston has fired the previous director of the team Lovie Smith in January following a 3-13-1 record in 2022. Smith is the only coach who lasted only an entire season in the team. The Texans dismissed David Culley after a 3-14 season last year . They then were hired by Smith.
The Carolina Panthers also unveiled the team’s new head coach on Tuesday, following the hiring of the former Colts head coach Frank Reich.
A 61-year old Reich was the quarterback for the Panthers the team’s first ever game in 1995. He will return to the team as its sixth head coach.
