A pop star Rex Orange County is to go on trial after being charged in connection with sexual assault charges on six occasions the victim.
The top-charting singer-songwriter who goes by the name of Alexander O’Connor, from Surrey was in court at Southwark Crown Court in London on Monday.
He was found not guilty of the charges of intentional touching sexually without consent. His trial was set for 3 January.
The third studio album by Mr. O’Connor reached the top spot in the UK in March.
“Alex is shocked by the allegations which he denies and looks forward to clearing his name in court,” an official statement on behalf of the accused said.
“He is unable to make any further comment because of the ongoing proceedings.”
The Sun stated that the alleged assaults are believed to have occurred in a taxi as well as the victim’s London home in the early part of June.
The next months later, the artist shared the message that stated he would be going to cancel the European, Australian and New Zealand concert dates due to “due to unforeseen personal circumstances, I am having to spend some time at home this year”.
He was granted bail indefinitely up to the time of trial.
