In a chat with Variety The 007 producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson spoke about speculations about Idris Elba playing James Bond.
The part as James Bond is still up to be shopped. In a recent interview with Variety, the producers of 007 Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson talked about the possibility of Idris Elba taking on the role of the next James Bond, after the British actor stated that he can’t think of Bond when the actor “looks in the mirror.”
“We are in love with Idris. But the thing is, it’s the next Bond filmexpected to be just a few years away. When we decide to decide to cast Bond for the film, it’s going to be a 10-year engagement,” Broccoli said. “So you can imagine that he’s wondering”Do I really want to do that?’ Not everyone wants to take on that role. It was a challenge to get Daniel Craig to do itto do it.”
Daniel Craig first portrayed James Bond in the movie Casino Royale, and concluded with the film No Time To Die in 2021. After Craig’s time as 007, people have been discussing Elba being the next Bond as Bond, with Broccoli acknowledging Craig’s Beast actor had been “a part of the conversation” in the casting process.
“Well we’re all familiar with Idris We’re friends with his, and he’s an amazing actor. You know it’s been a part of the discussion, but it’s difficult to talk about the topic with someone else on the other side,” Broccoli previously told Deadline in January.”I think we’ve made a decision that we will continue to do so until No Time To Die has been aired and Daniel has had the opportunity to experience – well we’ve all been able to enjoy the benefits of Daniel’s fantastic performance, we’re not going be thinking or talking about anyone other actor.”
Then in June Broccoli announced that the 26th Bond film would “reinvent” Bond, and there was no actor being considered to play the character. Broccoli added information that his next Bond film would not begin production until 2025.
