“One of the biggest leaks in video game history”.
One user of GTAForums(opens in a new tab) with the username “teapotuberhacker,” who claims to have were behind an earlier Uber hack has uploaded 90 videos that they claim to be from a prototype build that is part of Grand Theft Auto 6, that runs with “GTA 5 and 6 source code and assets”. Screenshots and footage taken from these videos are making around on YouTube, Twitter, Reddit and other sites, and they match up with the information in the most recent GTA 6 leak as well as an earlier leak, both of which suggested that it could have multiple characters playable including a female character and will be located in and around the Miami-like Vice City.
The validity of the leak has was confirmed through Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier(opens in a new tab) Schreier said “Not that there was much doubt, but I’ve confirmed with Rockstar sources that this weekend’s massive Grand Theft Auto VI leak is indeed real. The footage is early and unfinished, of course. This is one of the biggest leaks in video game history and a nightmare for Rockstar Games”.
In one clip (shorter version available on Twitter(opens in a new tab)) in which a character called Lucia takes over a Waffle Restaurant along with an accomplice known as Jason and takes hostages as if they’re from Pulp Fiction. A meter counts down ‘Time Until Cops Dispatched’, and it all looks reminiscent of the robberies in Red Dead Redemption 2, in spite of the mannequin NPCs clipping through objects, placeholder dialogue text like “Jason: GENERIC_CURSE_TO_SELF”, and a cop car that’s been recycled from GTA 5 only with V.C.P.D. written on it.
The most convincing footage is that shows a conversation at a poolside with the male character as well as a couple of rednecks (Twitter(opens in a new tab)). Conversations like “Oh yeah, he’s dead, is he? Just like there’s a country called Finland,” is presented as being a bit Rockstar and the voice acting quality is excellent.
There’s a lot more there that makes me think of Rockstar as well. The notification that says “WhatUp! message received” during a scene in the strip club (Twitter(opens in a new tab)) could be a mockery of WhatsApp that seems to be an very Rockstar way to go about it and so does the setting of entire scenes in a strip-club that include detailed pole dancing(opens in a new tab).
The earlier GTA 6 leak claimed the game was being developed since 2014 and was initially codenamed ‘Project American’. The files, which include”Americas” in their names “Americas” in their names and some that indicate a version that runs on the PlayStation 4 dev kit, could be years older. If they’re authentic, they confirm the details of leaks prior to them that made it sound like a game which would not be released until 2025. There’s no telling when it will be that a PC version might be out. In essence, don’t hold your for too long.
